My Profile

Jessica Lewis

I am 18 years old and have been riding since as long as I can remember. I have been eventing for the last three years and dedicate all my time to horses. My competetive career started in the world of showing, where I had great success with a number of ponies which taught me a great deal. My biggest highlights were winning at Horse of The Year show in 2002 and 2004 and riding at Olympia on 3 occasions. I still maintain alot of contacts with in the showing world and regularly have horses / ponies in to be schooled or sold.

I am a keen member of the Pytchley Hunt Pony Club and within the pony club is where I discovered my love for eventing. I regularly hunt with the Pytchley & Fernie Hunt through the winter months and find is is a great education for young horses.

I have high ambitions to become a professional Event Rider, and Currently have a string of 5 horses to event this season. They are all up and coming but either young or inexperienced, 2 of which have recently made the transition from National Hunt racing to eventing !

In 2008 I started eventing with Grey Carne Queen and competed consistantly in JRN's and Open Ponyclub level. I was short listed to represent my region at the JRN final but sadly was unable to compete due to an accident.

The highlight in 2009 for me was qualifying for the Pony Club Championships where I finished 3rd with Bryley Beau. He was a new ride earlier in the year and I had great success with him in Pony Club  Events and BE. throughout the season. I then spent the winter working for National Hunt Trainer Henrietta Knight improving my strength as a rider and learning more about pace.

2010 has been a good year I have been very lucky to have 2 new rides being Monarchs Retreat (Sparky) owned by Mrs Louise Swallow and her mother Mrs Caroline Adams, he is a very elegant horse with masses of scope and we all have high hopes for him for the future. My other new ride is Top Cat V (Felix) owned by Mrs Amanda Varley, she bought him to Hunt (which he loves!) but he also turns his hooves to Eventing and finished the season with 2 top 3 placings in BE100 classes. Both these horses will move upto Novice Level. I am very grateful to these owners for supporting me and cant wait for 2011.

My aim was to finish the season with a faultless xc record which I achieved on all 5 horses I rode throughout the year.
To finish off the year I had my first taste of Open Team Chasing, I have been very lucky to be invited to join the elusive ROR Lycetts A Class Act Team, I joined Andrew Shipley, Charlotte Alexander and Jo Rugman, all of whom are experienced seasoned campaigners. I ride Hatton Rock (Ginger) a former NH Racehorse whom I retrained and evented for 2 seasons, he is a fantastic jumper and although is quite small he makes light work of the sometimes 6'+ hedges! With a win and two 2nds so far we have qualified for the Championships to be held in April 2011 and are aiming for a team win!
